Sony released a new trailer for The Last of Us that goes a different route for once. There aren’t only things to gore and blow up in this survival game, but also just things to see. In the clip called Wasteland Beautiful, the developers stand still at the atmosphere of the game.

In this Playstation 3 exclusive, the main characters wander through a world where civilization has ceased for quite some time. According to the clip, nature has been running rampant through the cities for about 20 years. This means that concrete jungles now are filled with overgrowth. The developers wanted to juxtapose more natural themes with the grey, decaying dystopia of a total society meltdown.
Additionally, the clip takes a deepened look at the importance of lighting to create a lively ambience in the game. Developers are seen discussing in great length what can be done to improve the game and teams are encouraged to critique each other’s work. Naughty Dog believes this is the way to eventually see things from other perspectives and therefore create a better game. They might be right and they might be wrong; what’s certain is that The Last of Us looks amazing in-game.
